    The real cost

What your current razor actually costs you.

(And it isn't just the money.)

    01

The money they take from you every year

You've probably never worked it out precisely. But if you've been using refill cartridges for 10 years, you've spent between £700 and £1,300 on blades. To shave the same hair. On the same face. That's no coincidence. The business model is simple: they sell you the handle almost at a loss. They keep hold of you with the refills. Every cartridge you buy pays for patents, for advertising, for thousands of miles of logistics. Not your shave.

    02

The irritation they made you believe was normal

Redness. Razor burn. Ingrown hairs. Spots. You were told it was your skin. That you were "sensitive".It isn't true.5 blades means 5 consecutive passes over the same patch of skin. On every pass, the blade cuts the hair, then scrapes the skin. Five times. Every shave. For years. It isn't your skin that can't cope. It's the system that was never designed for it.

    03

Blades that wear out too fast, and that isn't a fault

Your blades are spent after 2 or 3 shaves. You change them. You buy more. Again and again. But if blades lasted 6 months, you'd stop buying them. And no big brand can afford that. Their model rests on your regular consumption. Not on the durability of their product.

    The hidden truth

Here is what the shaving industry would rather you never knew.

It isn't your fault that you kept buying cartridges for years. You didn't have the keys. Nobody gave them to you.

But from the moment you read these lines, you have them.

    The story nobody tells you
Close-up of the CARLTON razor head cutting through foam on a coarse beard

A century ago, the single-blade razor was the world standard. Simple. Effective. Cheap. The barber used it. Your great-grandfather used it. And it worked perfectly.

Then, in the seventies, a big American brand had an idea. Not to improve the shave. To improve its margins.

By patenting a proprietary blade system, incompatible with any other handle, they created something extraordinary from a business point of view:

    A captive customer. Forever.

You buy their handle once. And you buy their blades. For the rest of your life. Their engineers aren't working for your skin. They're working so that you never leave.

    The truth about DE blades
A single double-edge razor blade on a plain white background

There is another blade. It has been around for 100 years. Professional barbers all over the world still use it. The men with the best shave in the world use it.

It's the DE blade, Double Edge, universal and non-proprietary.

    It costs 10p.
It fits into any compatible razor in 10 seconds. It gives an objectively better shave. And it doesn't fund the CEO of a ten-billion multinational.

You've never heard about this in a TV advert. Think about why.

    The one real problem

The DE razor had one real flaw. Just one. To work properly, you had to find the right angle. 30°. Precisely 30°. An angle you can't see. That you can't feel. And if you got it wrong, cuts were guaranteed.

The big brands knew it. As long as the DE razor was hard to master, men went back to cartridges. "Convenient", "easy", "no technique required". That was their argument. And it held.

That is exactly why CARLTON was designed.

    The CARLTON mechanism

CARLTON solved the only real problem of the single-blade razor.

This razor was designed for one precise thing: to make DE shaving as simple as a disposable, and infinitely better.

Technical diagram of the CARLTON head showing the 30 degree blade angle and shave plane

The 30° angle built in, you have nothing to do

30°: that's the optimal angle to cut the hair without attacking the skin. Every expert has documented it. Every barber knows it. No big brand had ever built it mechanically into a razor. The CARLTON head positions the blade at exactly 30°, automatically. You place the razor on your face. It does the rest. No calculation. No technique. No learning curve. Like a disposable razor, but with 50 years of DE shaving behind it.

    Universal DE blades, zero dependency

No proprietary handle. No brand lock-in. Any standard DE blade, sold in any chemist, any supermarket or any online shop in the world, fits in 10 seconds. 100 blades for £10. That's two years of shaving. That's the end of the forced subscription. That's your freedom as a consumer, given back to you.

Rigid support, the end of irritation

On a multi-blade razor, the blade flexes slightly on every pass. That movement is invisible. But it is precisely what causes the tightness, the razor burn and the lasting redness. The CARLTON head holds the blade on both sides at once. It doesn't move. It doesn't vibrate. It doesn't scrape. It cuts the hair only. And nothing else. Imagine cutting with a knife that trembles slightly on every stroke, versus a perfectly rigid one. That's the difference.

Balanced weight, gravity does the work

The CARLTON head weighs 33 g. The handle, 27 g. The head is deliberately heavier. It rests on the skin under its own weight. You don't need to press. You never needed to press. But nobody ever told you. Less pressure means less friction means less irritation. Millions of men have damaged their skin for decades by pressing too hard. CARLTON stops them, mechanically.

    Do the maths

The numbers the big brands don't want you to work out.

I approached the mirror with that slight…

I approached the mirror with that slight apprehension you inherit from childhood. The sort that comes back without warning, like a forgotten smell or a song you catch walking down a street. In my memory, the single-blade razor was an almost fearsome object. I can still see my father at the sink, a small scrap of loo roll stuck over a fresh nick, muttering at a blade too keen or a hand too quick.
So it was with some caution that I picked up this CARLTON.
    Then came the first pass.
An odd sensation. Almost disorientating. The blade glided so smoothly that I was convinced it wasn't cutting anything at all. No pulling, no resistance. Only the light contact of metal on skin. For a moment I genuinely thought the shave hadn't started.
I had to run my fingers over my cheek to be sure. The stubble had gone. The skin was clean. The job had been done with an almost elegant discretion.
The cutting angle, which felt like an obstacle at first, is learnt very quickly. After a few passes the movement becomes natural, almost instinctive. You understand then why so many devotees of traditional shaving speak of a ritual rather than a daily chore.
And above all, the fears I'd carried from my memories have gone. The rigid hold on the blade inspires confidence. Nothing like the image I had of those old razors that seemed to be waiting for the slightest error to bite. Here everything feels more controlled, safer, more reassuring.
Just as certain smells wake a buried memory only to transform it, this razor brought back an old apprehension and replaced it with a discovery: a shave that is precise, gentle and surprisingly calm.

My CARLTON arrived as promised in about 7 working days.
It was very well packed and protected.
And a real pleasure to open the parcel and find a smart case with this very elegant razor inside.
As for the shave itself, the new technique comes fairly quickly and is a pleasure to get to grips with.
It teaches you patience again, and to take a bit more care of yourself…
Mind you, I have the impression the stubble grows back faster, or maybe I just want to use my razor more often 😂
    Very happy indeed!
    All the best,

    Back to the future

I'd had this sort of razor before, handed down from my father, but buying the blades was a faff and eventually I lost it somewhere along the way.

So off to the Gillettes and the rest. Fine, it shaved well enough, but what a budget.

And then… I come across your product (not bad, your advertising).

I was sold straight away and took the plunge fairly quickly.

Holding it has the effect of a memory rushing back, and it was with some feeling that I had my very first shave all over again (keep up).

The object is superb, nicely balanced, the little protective case is classy and the stock of blades puts my mind at rest.

As for the shave it's spot on, the residue clears easily, it's a genuine pleasure. Very good tutorial too.

    You've won me over.

Well done, and by heck, thank you for this "Back to the future".

I use it to shave my head and honestly it's the best of the best. Before, I wasn't confident with a blade razor so I used a fairly pricey electric one, but now with this razor my routine has changed and the electric one is gathering dust

    Excellent quality

    Hello,
I'm very happy with this CARLTON razor. At the start you have to find the right angle and after that it shaves a three-day stubble very well. I went for the black finish which I think looks great, and the blade is child's play to fit.
No need to tap the razor on the side of the basin to clear the stubble.
    Delivery is fine, one week.
Downside: real shame a stand to rest the razor and its blades isn't included in a set, hence the 4 stars out of 5.

A team that lives up to the CARLTON name.

A team that genuinely cares about its customers, and whose responsiveness to any question would put the big outfits to shame. As for the CARLTON itself, it's very easy to handle (for anyone used to safety razors or a cut-throat). It's a pleasure to run your hand over the skin afterwards and feel how close the shave is.
I'd warmly recommend this razor, for its reasonable price, its quality, its extreme precision, and for the whole team behind CARLTON.

    Your questions

    Answered straight.

We collected the real questions our customers ask before buying. Here are the answers, the good ones and the less good ones.

Am I really at risk of cutting myself with CARLTON?

Honestly: some customers do nick themselves on the first 2 or 3 shaves. Not because the razor is dangerous. Because we all have the same bad reflex: pressing hard, like with a multi-blade.

With CARLTON, you don't push. You rest the razor and let it glide, which is why the head is heavier than the handle. The 30° angle is built in mechanically: there's nothing for you to work out.

In the vast majority of cases, the movement becomes natural after 3 to 5 shaves. And if it still isn't smooth after 100 days, we refund you.

I've never used a DE razor. Is it really accessible to a complete beginner?

That's exactly why CARLTON was designed. A classic DE razor asks you to find the 30° angle by hand, which isn't intuitive at all and explains why many people give up after a single shave.

On CARLTON, the angle is built into the head. You have nothing to calculate. You place the razor, tilt it slightly until the first contact with the hair, and the hair itself tells you the right angle. From the very first shave.

What does a blade really cost? And what does it cost me per year?

A blade costs 10p. It lasts 5 to 7 shaves on average.

For a man who shaves 4 times a week: 100 blades is around 550 shaves, so roughly two and a half years. Price: £10.

    That's about £7 a year in blades.

Against £70 to £130 a year for standard multi-blade cartridges. Over 10 years, the difference is more than £1,000.

Do I have to buy only your blades, or can I use others?

Any standard universal DE blade works in CARLTON. Chemist, supermarket, online, anywhere in the world. Zero exclusivity, zero lock-in.

Our blades are the ones we recommend, but you're under no obligation to use them.

That's precisely the model we refuse: forcing you to come back to us for the consumables. You're free.

How long will my order take to arrive?

5 to 7 working days from dispatch. You'll receive an email with your tracking link as soon as your order is prepared.

If the link doesn't activate straight away, that's normal. The tracking updates as soon as the parcel is scanned.

If you have the slightest question, we answer on WhatsApp.

The 100-day guarantee, how does it work in practice?

Try CARLTON for 100 days. If you aren't satisfied, whatever the reason, contact us by email or on WhatsApp.

    We refund you in full.

No need to send the razor back. No form. No conditions. No "but you used more than X blades so...".

We trust you. That's why we can make this promise without conditions.

The lifetime guarantee, what exactly does it cover?

If your razor turns out to be faulty, today, in 5 years or in 20 years, we replace it. Free of charge. No delay.

CARLTON is made of aluminium and Zamak. It isn't plastic. It doesn't degrade. We can offer a lifetime guarantee because we know the razor won't break on its own.

Keep your order number. That's all we ask.

Is CARLTON made in the UK?

[ANSWER TO CONFIRM — ARBITRAGE ANSELME.] The reference page answers this head-on rather than burying it in small print under the photo: designed in one place, manufactured in another, and the distinction owned openly. Say it plainly here.

Do you deliver outside mainland Britain?

[DELIVERY ZONES TO CONFIRM.] List the countries you ship to, the delivery times, and anywhere you don't currently deliver.

What's the difference between Silver and Matte Black?

Purely aesthetic. The two finishes are strictly identical: same weight (60 g), same mechanism, same angle, same performance.

Silver is the original version, brushed aluminium finish, minimalist look. Matte Black is for those who prefer something more discreet.

They shave exactly the same. Choose the one you'll want to see on your basin every morning.

If you're still here, you're convinced. There's only one thing left to do.

100 days to try it. A lifetime guarantee on the razor. And the cheapest blades you'll ever buy.
